Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has been added to the England international squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and possibly Montenegro.
Although, Cahill will be reassessed later in the week and may take part in the second of England's qualifiers, against Montenegro on Tuesday 26 March.
If selected for the San Marino game, Taylor, 27, would earn a first senior cap after playing for England at Under 16, Under 17, Under 20, Under 21 and B level.
Steven Taylor said: "I am so happy to have received a call-up to the full squad. It is every player's ambition to represent their country and it is the greatest honour in professional football.
"If I am lucky enough to be given that chance over the next seven days, it will be one of the proudest moments of my playing career."
"On behalf of all the squad, staff and supporters, we wish him all the best and hope he is given the chance to win his first senior international cap."
