Tiger Controversy at the Masters

You have to love a casino game the place where a guy can hit a great chance and have it wind up costing him 4 strokes. In the final examination thatas what happened to Tiger on the hole yesterday at the Masters when he struck his basketball and the flag stick caromed into the water. He took a stroke and then replayed the shot perhaps not from the exact same location but from several feet farther right back. The matter of him maybe not playing from the exact same place was brought to the rules authorities and they determined, while Tiger was still playing the 18th hole, that there was no abuse and let because it was him sign his card. After further assessment and speaking with Tiger, who was totally honest in what happened and that his objective was to improve his rest by returning several feet, they decided that he needed to be penalized another 2 strokes. A year ago the USGA ruled that players who signed a wrong scorecard didnat need to be disqualified if they didnat know before they signed it absolutely was wrong. Most agreed it was a good rule change at the time. So whatas the large brouhaha? Didnat everything play out because it must have? Iam likely to simply take my battle in this straight to Brandel Chamblee who thinks Tiger have to do the honorable thing and withdraw. Iam going after Brandel because I like his criticism and I regard him tremendously for the ideas he gives to tennis contacts. Iam entirely surprised that he and I are on opposite sides of this matter. Tennis is really a sport that lives and dies by its policies and itas code of conduct which is player honesty. First, Tiger was straightforward and explained just what he did. Secondly he followed your choice of the Masteras guidelines panel without criticism. This is exactly what golfers are expected to complete. All of us realize that the golfers donat make the principles. Itas nothing like they should have convened all of the players yesterday evening and had them vote on which should happen to Tiger. Like the young Chinese amateur who was simply penalized recently for slow play, the principles committee shows you what their choice is and you follow it. So just why should Tiger withdraw? In terms of I am aware, players withdraw when they're injured or maybe thereas an individual emergency which requires they leave. Withdrawal isnat something that players use to eliminate themselves when theyave develop an interpretation of the principles and use it to themselves. Disqualification is just what a event panel does to a player who has done some thing that the Guidelines of Golf needs them to be disqualified. This is similar to other activities like downhill ski racing. If youare injured or donat want to battle for many personal cause, youare disqualified when you donat adapt to the rules such as missing an entrance you withdraw. Iam unsure why Brandel thinks Tiger must withdraw. Should all players determine their moral character before, during and following a round and decide whether or not they should withdraw. Of course not. Thatas not just how golf works. Then a rules authorities are alerted, when someone, or the gamer themselves, think a player has broken a rule and they make the final decision. Itas not as much as experts or viewers or fellow players. In Tigeras situation at Augusta, the rules committee construed and applied the rules determining him a 2 stroke penalty after the round. They decided he shouldnat be disqualified. Itas maybe not as much as Tiger to be their own policies committee and disqualify himself. The USGA and PGA Tour decided with Augusta Nationalas judgment. Lion took his punishment without criticism and is abiding by their decision. it must be all is. What Chamblee is inquiring is for Tiger to disqualify himself by misusing the withdrawal provision in golf. Thatas not how a game is played. A new player hits a fantastic shot and ultimately drops 4 photographs according to the Rules of Golf. Thatas tennis as it must certanly be. The Principles of Golf are what they are. Often we donat like them since they donat arrange with this notion of fair play. In cases like this Brandel Chamblee wants them to be interpreted according to his opinions. Thatas perhaps not the way in which it works. Itas around the Ruling Bodies and event committees to do that. Our personal feelings donat matter. Go ask Casey Martin about any of it if youare still confused.
