Disparate styles will clash when the Golden State Warriors visit the Mile High City to take on the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 on Saturday night.
To be clear, offense is very much the name of the game for both the Dubs and the Nuggets, but these two squads go about collecting their points in very different ways.
Denver led the NBA in points in the paint this season with a whopping 58 per game, while the Warriors did their damage from long range. Golden State topped the league with a three-point accuracy rate of 40.3 percent, and Stephen Curry's 270 triples in 2012-13 were more than any NBA player had hit in any year.
The Nuggets will be without Danilo Gallinari, who went down with a torn ACL late in the year. Plus, Kenneth Faried, a real key against the soft interior defense of Golden State's David Lee, will likely be playing at less than 100 percent—if he plays at all—after spraining his ankle in Denver's second-to-last game of the regular season.
If Curry and the Warriors can knock down threes and meet the nearly impossible challenge of slowing down the Nuggets in transition, they've got a chance to take this series. To pull off that improbable feat, they'll have to steal at least one game in Denver, which is a difficult task in its own right.
The Nuggets won 38 of their 41 contests at the Pepsi Center this past season and beat the Warriors by double digits in both of Golden State's visits to Colorado.
