I'm always looking for easy, no-fail strategies to help me when my next tennis doubles match. And I'll bet that you're too. So here's a "retro" Tennis Fixation post within the past reminding you of an good one that more often than not works – pick on the weak link!
You know that one of the more basic doubles strategy may be to "pick on the weak link" – establish which of your a few opponents is worse and hit to the puppy again and again. While this strategy alone may not earn the match, it is a big component of increases success.
The time to begin the process looking for the poor link is, of course, during the warm-up. So recently, I played a match where my spouse and i had warmed-up and then discussed who we thought was the weaker of the opponents. We had decided which both women were extremely consistent and we wouldn't necessarily pick on one too. As the match wore on, I found myself stepping into rallies at the net with one of the two women – the only one who was taller, played the online more aggressively and gained most everything back. Eventually, thank goodness, my partner believed to me, "Why are people hitting to her? Other one's a lot weaker. Hit to that an individual! "
Oh yeah! Pick on the weak link! I had not only forgotten that system, I was actually doing a one-on-one battle while using better player!
The lesson – due to the fact you don't see a weak link early inside match doesn't mean there isn't one. The warm-up doesn't reveal everything. Lots of players are great at going through the motions of a warm-up. But then they do not come up to online during the match. Or they get worn out and suddenly aren't so excellent. So constantly be talking to your partner and seeking that weak link. When your partner keeps hitting to your stronger player, by all means tell her to stop doing that!
