Txiki Begiristain, hired as City's director of basketball last October, has seen Dortmund play several times in 2013 with the intention of tracking Mats Hummels, Neven Subotic and the highly-rated Gotze. Goal.com exclusively revealed in March that Manchester United have pulled out from the running for Gotze, despite the 20-year-old openly revealing his need to one day play for Sir Alex Ferguson's side. Studies in Germany claim Begiristain flew out to Dortmund to view the German club's installation against Shakhtar Donetsk in March and had a talk with Gotze's representative, Volker Struth, regarding a potential deal. Roberto Mancini is targeting several big-name signings ahead of the summer transfer screen after seeing his side drop 12 factors behind Manchester United in the concept race this season.
