True Madrid insist 'we can turn it round' against Borussia Dortmund - The Guardian

All the talk has been of the character of Juanito but JosA Mourinho was avoiding the ghosts of Real Madrid's past. Madrid enter their Champions League semi-final second leg against Borussia Dortmund needing to overcome a 4-1 shortage amid an ocean of motivational videos and lessons ever sold, the discussion centred on courage, center and environment, but Madrid's director preferred to concentrate on the thing that's been generally forgotten: the football. Mourinho has stayed out of the club strategies intended to heat up the environment and while he attacked his team for enjoying the first leg "as when it wasAa friendly", efficiently challenging that they spend fouls at the BernabAu, he shied from the mental story that has characterised the buildup to this sport. They call it a remontada a' comeback a' and it holds a unique place in Madrid's hearts. What of the forward Juanito in April 1986 are now actually the stuff of legend. Madrid was crushed 3-1 by Internazionale in the initial leg of a Uefa Cup wrap and after ward Juanito informed Madrid's competitors in cod Italian: "Noventi minuti durante el BernabAu child molto longo." Ninety minutes in the BernabAu certainly are a extended time. When Madrid are facing it they invoke the spirit of a new player whose terms are given extra meaning when he died in a vehicle crash in 1992. Madrid won the next leg 4-1. There have been other examples too: Madrid beat Anderlecht 6-1 after a first-leg defeat in 1984, and in 1985 they beat both Inter a 3-0, having lost the initial leg 2-0 a and Borussia MAnchengladbach 4-0, after a 5-1 defeat. The way was gone all by the tradition back to 1976 and a 5-1 make an impression on Derby County having lost 4-1 in the first leg. Opponents stumbled on the BernabAu and panicked; an awaited them, and it was aggressive and noisy. Jorge Valdano named it "stage fright." The flaw is that none came in the European Cup and it's nearly three years since the last remontada. Real Madrid have prepared a movie in the buildup to the game in which people seem telling the lovers that they've a job to play, a place that might have been easier to get home if the least expensive seats didn't cost significantly more than a100. People utter words such as "Your heart will be our heart", and "Your energy is our strength", but Mourinho doesn't appear. He seemed unimpressed with the effort. "I did not want to do the movie because I do believe the best way to stimulate the supporters is by using football," he said. "You encourage them by enjoying well, being critical. I know who Juanito is and I respect that. People work in other places at the club and they feel [a video] is good. I am a football coach, that's how I motivate them. They do movies, I actually do soccer. The best way to motivate the fans [would have been] to obtain a better end in Dortmund." That moment, of program, has passed, though much of what the manager said hung on his analysis of the initial leg a' an analysis where he was very critical of his players. Now Madrid have an additional chance and so does the coach: if he is to keep at the end of the time, as is increasingly likely, it is a final possibility to get the European Cup with Madrid. He but insisted that he still had "10 years" to attempt to get the trophy for a time, and mentioned that his future did not rely on the result. If Real get knocked on the market will be more questions presented. "I know that when we win we all win nevertheless when we lose it's the coach's fault," he said, bitterly. Asked about stories that Madrid are talking with Carlo Ancelotti, he replied: "You need certainly to ask Madrid and Ancelotti." "I can not set a chance on it," Mourinho said, "especially it's difficult to use mathematics to justify claiming that you've a chance, if the report is so imbalanced: when it is like that. It's only baseball and we are 4-1 down. It is possible. [But] if we perform like we did in Dortmund, forget it. I was not worried about how they felt after the game, I was worried about studying that game. My team was named by "i before the first leg since it was clear. This time we possibly may take to different people and a different process therefore I will not say. But I can inform you that Cristiano Ronaldo is fine. We will make an effort to get and then see from there. We shall get goal by goal and minute by minute, before last minute. If we are 1-0 up we need two and if we're 2-1 up we need two as well." Franz Beckenbauer had notified Bayern Munich to the fact that Barcelona could do all they could to show round the other semi-final, "whether licit or illicit", and Mourinho used that to possess still another dig at his opponents and to bemoan his team's attitude in the initial leg. "I study someone say there are groups who use licit ways and illicit ways of winning," he explained. "I talked about similar things couple of years ago and the planet came crashing down together with me. My team just does licit issues. We are so pure, so innocent, so naive that [Robert] Lewandowski scored four and on him we did not devote an individual foul. We have to attempt to win the game. I want intensity and aggression." Asked to date=june 2011 that point, Mourinho said: "In five minutes Ronaldo has [normally] been fouled four times. I am not saying I want to foul him but I want concentration, power, aggression. Want it was an agreeable we played. But none of the people abandoned that and ship gives me hope that we can transform it round."
