Arnold Palmer Invitational 2013: What a Victory Will Mean for Tiger Woods

Padraig Harrington is in a very familiar position at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and he will have a two-stroke lead into Sundayas final round. But a victory in Orlando will give anything to him he hasnat had since 2009: confidence planning into Augusta. Bay Hill has treated Woods well through the duration of his career, and if he stays atop the leaderboard after Sundayas round, he will catch the title as of this opposition for the eighth time. With The Masters just a couple weeks away, the golf world will be got by this victory buzzing about a possible end to the greatest major drought of Woodsa career. He went winless at all of the marquee events in 2009, then accidents and an adultery scandal derailed his profession and cost his area to him atop the Planet Golf Rankings. The 2008 U.S. Open is Woodsa last success at a significant, and at least the full five years if he doesn't get at Augusta, the drought will last. Woods took a protracted break at the start of 2010, and his first competition of the year was The Masters. He finished last and sent an impressive showing. In 2012, he could create energy before the first major of the year with a end at the Honda Classic and a success at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, however he flopped at The Masters and finished 40th. He did better at the remaining majors, but a victory eluded him. But now, heas playing his best golf since his fall from grace. Woods didn't get an individual PGA tournament this season, then notched just one victory in 2011. He confirmed improvement in 2012 and topped three leaderboards during the season. He'll already have his third victory of the 2013 season, if he holds on to his guide at Bay Hill. The final time he had three wins under his belt before The Masters was in 2008. He finished 2nd to Trevor Immelman at Augusta that year, but went on to get the U.S. Open. That was Woods at his best, and if that player has resurfaced it's not completely clear. Brian Cannon/Getty Photos There have been a number of occasions within the last couple of years where fans have wanted to declare that Tiger is back, but he built his reputation on being one of many best players his activity has ever seen. Until he wins a significant woods won't formally be straight back. Regrettably for Woods, itas not good enough for him to just gain PGA events and take on another participants in the field. Because of his prodigious ability and outstanding success earlier in the day in his career, he is competing with the tales of the game each time the course is hit by him. Right now, he is losing that fight. There is only 1 point in Jack Nicklausa profession by which he went five years between winning majors. That got between his 17th victory at the 1980 PGA Championship and his 18th and final win at the 1986 Masters at the age of 46. Woods still features a few years until age begins restricting his capability to master, and if he hopes to truly have a chance at getting Nicklausa record he must make the most of now. Once he begins making another push toward his 18th career success at a significant woods will simply be back. Which means that a victory for Woods at Bay Hill will not have a lot of meaning in itself. But it will put him in better form than he's been since the conclusion of 2009, and there will become more optimism bordering his arrival at Augusta than there was in any of the last three years.
